In other news, it is a known fact that Judge Rutherford and Nathan Knorr, and probably many other Bethel heavies, signed a very similar oath in order to get a passport. I believe I've even seen photocopies of those documents posted here on JWN. If anyone can find and repost them, I think lots of people would be interested in seeing them.

Leading First Amendment scholars intervene in CA loyalty oath case
by Corney inbrianna bolden-hardge, a mother of two, a devout jw and a career california civil servant, sues the office of the state controller which revoked a job offer after she objected to swearing a loyalty oath, even though three other state agencies she worked for "either did not insist on the oath or provided her a religious accommodation to it" (by allowing to submit a clarifying statement).
she sued, and the case was dismissed by a district court.
now it's heard by the ninth circuit.

Suspected Washington Kingdom Halls arsonist arrested
by Corney inas many probably remember, in 2018-2020, multiple kingdom and assembly halls were set on fire in the state of washington, so fbi, atf, local sheriff and arson alarm foundation offered $61,000 in rewards for information leading to arrest of the arsonist.
the attacks (seven arsons and one shooting) included:.
march 19, 2018: two arson attacks - one at a tumwater kingdom hall and the second at a kingdom hall on cain road in olympia.

Actually, I'm glad the accused perpetuator is not a disgruntled, crazed apostate. Man, the Society would have made hay with that!
This person is obviously unbalanced and needs psychiatric help. While the public must be protected, and he must be prevented from burning any more buildings, I hope he gets the help he needs.
All that said, I can certainly sympathize with his disgust and hatred for the cult that the WT has become.

I seldom give the WT credit for anything they do, but I will admit this website was very well done and will probably get their point across. My adult son, who is in the custom web services business, says they probably paid "a pretty penny" for that level of quality. It is possible that they have someone at Bethel who can do this level of work, but it's not unheard of for them to outsource particularly important jobs to "worldly" businesses. Who knows, and more importantly, who cares?
All that said, It is a good example of what a polished website can be. Too bad it will ultimately be used to lure unsuspecting people into an authoritarian cult that divides families and ruins people’s lives. They don’t tell their prospects that there is no honorable way to leave, and that you’ll lose any family who are still in if you do. Fork 'em!

TRICKY WORDS and why not to use them
by Terry intricky words .
perfectly good words go unused in writing and speaking.
their meaning isn't clear and the eye is 'tricked' by similarity to other words or sounds.. .

The gist is that 3 things constitute a "scriptural" divorce with the freedom to remarry: (1) adultery, (2) a legal divorce, and (3) rejection by the "innocent" mate. One of the things that establishes this rejection is the "innocent" mate's signing of the divorce papers.
They do include a blurb that in some lands it might be possible to sign documents establishing child custody and support but still not consenting to the divorce. I've never heard of this in actual practice, and only a fool would agree to the obligations of a settlement without the freedoms of a divorce.
Anyway, once such a "scriptural" divorce occurs, remarriage by either party is considered scriptural, legal, and binding. Therefore, it would not be considered an adulterous marriage.
That said, the adultery still must be dealt with and the "guilty" mate may not be considered "exemplary" for a long time, even if not disfellowshipped or after being reinstated. He or she would not qualify for any congregation "privileges" till they have "lived down" their guilt and shame. Big whoop.

Hello again, Atlantis! I was just watching a live stream of He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named (on JWN) and Mark O'Donnell discussing the new elder's manual. Mark mentioned an additional 16-page document, different from the 5-page Announcement and Attachment document. Do you know what he was referring to? Do you have a copy that you can share?
Regardless, thanks for all you're doing to keep us all informed about the Society's latest shenanigans. Take care, my friend.

Thank you very much, Atlantis! The more people who have these "secret" manuals, the better. Makes it harder for the Society to lie about what their procedures and policies are.

Hi truth_b_known! For what it's worth, I agree that parents must be held responsible to financially support any children they may have, whether that means that both are employed or just one is and the other stays home with the children. I believe it is wrong to have deliberately have children you cannot provided for, and it is dishonorable to not make every effort to provide for your children, regardless of the circumstances.
That said, I would bet that the number of those who have never masturbated in extremely small, probably a tiny fraction of a percent. And once you try it, it's practically impossible to never do it again. So the WT's estimation of those who have masturbated is probably quite low. And active JWs are no exception. They just don't admit it.
I also agree with the majority of the other commenters. Masturbation is not even mentioned in the Bible, even though other very personal matters such as ejaculation (in within marriage) and menstruation were mentioned and regulated repeatedly. The account of the death of Onan has nothing whatsoever to do with masturbation or even birth control. It has to do with his grossly violating the intent of the brother-in-law marriage arrangement. This is just another example of the way organized religions twist scriptural accounts and take them out of context as a premise to control every aspect of their followers' lives.
